Do I have to choose a design from the gallery range or can I have something different?

You can do either! Designs in the gallery can be reproduced, altered to fit your theme or together we can create a brand new bespoke design that is exclusively yours.

I don’t know where to start, I like so many styles.

At our consultation we discuss sizes, shapes and design until you feel that your cake reflects you and your style perfectly. Before we meet it’s great for you to start collecting fabric swatches, flower pictures, images of cakes that inspire you and think about which style you want to achieve: elegant & sophisticated, colourful & funky, modern or traditional. Bring these items along and we can incorporate these ideas into your cake.

How does a consultation work?

You are invited to my home where we discuss your requirements and you can taste samples of my cake flavours, this can take from 30 – 90 minutes depending on how many ideas you already have! I can make appointments on both week days and weekends, days and evenings to suit your schedules. Complimentary consultations are bookable by telephone or email. Once I have all the information I need, I will post or email you a quotation that is valid for 30 days along with our terms & conditions and then leave it to you to decide if you wish to go ahead with the order.

Do you bake all the cakes?

All our cakes are baked on the premises fresh to order with a lot of care and the freshest ingredients so that it tastes as fabulous as it looks. Fruit cakes are baked if possible 2 months before your event to allow the cake to mature, the Genoese sponges are made the week of the event.

What flavours do you bake?

Please look at the flavours page to see a full list of our flavours and fillings. I try creating new flavours whenever I can so every so often there’s a new one to try!

Can I have different flavoured tiers?

Absolutely! It’s a lovely thought to cater for everyone (be careful though they may want a slice of each!)

Some of my guests can’t have nuts; can I have a cake without?

With pleasure. Except for the almond sponge all our sponges are free of nut derivatives. Our fabulous fruit cake recipe does contain nuts, but can be made without the nuts (and the alcohol) if you prefer. Just let me know and I’d be happy to create one for you. Please note though that all our cakes are made in an environment where nuts are stored and used.

Can you make cakes for other dietary requirements?

Unfortunately at this time I do not make egg or gluten free cakes.

I’ve already got the cake – I just need it decorating is this something you do?

I’m happy to ice and decorate your cake for you and will liaise with your baker directly to confirm details.

I’ve got a lot of guests but I don’t want a huge cake on display, what can I do?

No problem, additional cake portions can be in the form of a cutting cake (sometimes called a kitchen cake, where they are kept), these cakes are simply covered so are less expensive to create than the decorated cake tiers on show but taste just as delicious.

It’s a smaller, more intimate affair but I want a larger looking cake than I need, what can I do?

No problem, we create the cake to your specifications but we add a faux tier covered and decorated the same as the others. No-one will ever know and this tier can even be kept as a memento!

Can I use my cake as a desert?

Absolutely, rule of thumb, the portion size should be doubled and you may wish to add some fresh berries and a fruit coulis to serve.

Can I keep the sugar flowers from my cake?

The sugar flowers made for your cake will keep perfectly if away from direct sunlight and moisture.

Do you make figure toppers?

I make figures from marzipan in various sizes, brides, grooms, children & babies and various animals. These keep very well for some time after your event.

Can you deliver & set up my cake?

Yes, I deliver wedding and civil ceremony cakes to your venue and there is no charge if it’s within 10 miles. The delivery service includes a liaison with the venue staff as to serving information. Depending on the complexity of the cake there may be a small set up charge. If you prefer, you may collect the cake and if the cake requires ‘setting up’ I can give you full instruction at this time.  All other celebration cakes are collected unless otherwise pre-arranged.

Do you supply stands and knives?

I have a small selection of stands and knives that you can view in the stands section. I hire these pieces with cakes as a complimentary service. I require a deposit for these items which is refundable on their safe return. You may also wish to check with your venue for their stand and knife sets who also usually provide these free of charge.

When do I need to order?

All cake orders are taken on diary availability, so the earlier the better! It is usual to order wedding and civil ceremony cakes 3 months before the event and all other celebration cakes at least 2 weeks before, but please contact me if there’s an emergency, I will always try to make something wonderful and help out if you’re in a tight spot!

How can I pay?

An order is confirmed only on receipt of a non-refundable deposit and payment can be made by cash or cheque. Please see our terms & conditions for the finer details.
